Give of your time to support the Ranch
Volunteers are essential for McCrossan Boys Ranch. Whether looking to volunteer as an individual, family, or business, we have several areas in which volunteers can help the staff at the Ranch, including:
Contact the Development Office if you're interested in volunteering at the Ranch at (605) 339-1203 or click on the Volunteer Inquiry button below to send an email.
The McCrossan Boys Ranch Women's Auxiliary was established in 1967 to:
1) assist in making this "home away from home" more physically attractive and comfortable for the boys in residence;
2) to help the directors and staff make the boys feel more loved and remembered with occasional cards, treats, and assorted favors, and;
3) to assist the directors and staff in any needed capacity in which they are capable of serving.
Auxiliary meetings are the first Monday of every month (September to July) at noon. There is plenty of time to socialize after a brief business meeting. Membership dues are paid at the first meeting in the fall. Dues cover costs of crafts and favors for the boys as well as special events for the boys. The Auxiliary also participates in fundraising events for the Ranch.
If you’re interested in joining the Auxiliary, contact the McCrossan Development Office at (605) 339-1203.
Your time is one of the best gifts you can give to our boys. Becoming a McCrossan mentor is a great way to help share your life experiences with our boys at the Ranch. Roughly one in three children in our communities do not have enough positive adults in their lives. Looking back many of us can probably think of someone – a teacher, coach, boss or other role model that has helped shape us. Listeners, supporters, co-learners and someone to lean on in a time of crisis is what many of our boys are lacking.
McCrossan’s is looking for mentors that are willing to spend at least one hour a week with a paired mentee. “Sometimes that mentor can come in and just be a support person and throw around ideas and conversations, it’s not always about correcting their behavior, we can do that, we can be the person who holds them accountable. A mentor can be someone who comes in and has fun with them and lets them just be a kid,” says Patty Wood, McCrossan Program Manager.
"What I've really found is it's been very rewarding for me too, and the relationship is certainly a two-way relationship. I've learned for much over the years."
-Andy McKay, McCrossan Mentor
